Os tão aguardados resultados dos Metal Storm Awards 2009 foram finalmente revelados. Na maior votação de sempre desde a primeira edição do concurso em 2004, este ano 10 das 25 categorias ultrapassaram a barreira dos 1000 votos. Destaque para a vitória mais expressiva na categoria de Black Metal, onde o álbum All Shall Fall dos Immortal teve 426 votos contra 112 do segundo classificado, In The Constellation Of  The Black Widow dos Anaal Nathrakh. Destaque também  para a vitória à justa dos Converge na categoria de Metalcore, onde tiveram apenas mais 11 votos que os The Agonist. Já na categoria “The Biggest Letdown”, a luta foi renhida entre 1349, Lacuna Coil, Slayer e Sonata Arctica, mas os vencedores acabaram por ser os Wintersun por o álbum Time não ter sido lançado. Por fim, menciono também a surpreendente vitória dos Megadeth na categoria “The Biggest Surprise”, que acabaram por ficar à frente de Alice In Chains e dos Kalisia com um álbum indiscutivelmente bom, mas não assim tão surpreendente.
